3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeler is ideal for tackling off-road terrain, offering a smooth ride for your baby. They are also easier to push and maneuver than a four wheel buggy especially those equipped with fabric slings or seat units, which are positioned tightly in the frame and deliver the most efficient design and weight distribution.

Stability

A three-wheel buggy has excellent stability, which is why it is a great choice for off road walking (especially with an all-terrain or off-road-style seat). These types of buggys typically have large front tires that can handle bumps, kerbs and rough terrain. Some models even come with a lockable front wheel to give extra stability when driving on uneven terrain.

It is important to remember that 3 wheel baby strollers-wheel buggies may have a lower centre of gravity than 4-wheeled models, which can mean that they can tip over more easily. Older children and toddlers will love the spacious and padded seat with adjustable ventilation. It's worth noting that the seats aren't fully reclined however, they can be lowered to the lowest level which will give your child plenty of headroom and space to move around.

A sling seat made of cloth is also available. It has the advantage of being set snugly inside the frame instead of on top like a modular seat and this gives a lower centre of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, particularly on bumpy terrain or over curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this kind of seat handled obstacles.

This type of buggy has an enormous basket, along with other beneficial features such as an extended hood with 50+ UV protection, a simple to use brake pedal, and some innovative visibility lights which can be put in front of the occupants to ensure safety when riding on rough terrain.

Tyres

Air filled tyres have been designed to give your child an easier ride by cushioning out bumps and uneven surfaces. You'll find these on pushchairs like the Phil & Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath found to offer "an amazing ride for my toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres on it made it easy to tackle cobbles and kerbs.

They can be tricky to keep inflated and will need to be topped up frequently. These tyres are more susceptible to punctures, so you should always carry a repair kit as well as an spare inner tube with you when you're out and about.

PU tyres are more commonly found on pushchairs as they are a cheaper option than air-filled tyres, but they are just as durable. PU tyres are easily identified by their matte finish and supple feel. They also slide easily on uneven and tied surfaces.

If you move your hand over the tyres you can tell if they're rubber or PU. If it feels like it's moving, then it is a rubber or PU. You can also test if your buggy is fitted with PU tyres, by sliding them onto a flat, clean surface. They should roll easily and fit snugly into the wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are able to withstand the rough terrain associated with high-performance buggies. This can make your buggy less stable since the foam loses its springy quality. The tyres can also be noisy, as they make lots of noise when you turn or drive around town.
