The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and it will leave your floors spotless. Its low cost and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Be sure to check your robot vacuums that mop's brushes for hair that is tangled and large particles, and wash them when needed. Some models will automatically empty their onboard dustbin into a larger one at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They are equipped with motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model), they use intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance automatic vacuum cleaner and mop utilizes sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could sweep the entire house, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on different floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models, this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our tests. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing with a bit more noise and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dry mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house depending on how dirty these areas tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have large furniture. Additionally the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would expect from its price tag. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to create the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
