    Choosing a Large Bedside Cot

uuoeebb-4-in-1-bedside-crib-bassinet-baby-crib-with-changing-table-baby-bassinet-with-wheels-travel-cot-with-mattress-included-five-level-height-adjustable-baby-cribs-for-newborn-black-1563.jpgBedside cots, also referred as bassinets and co-sleepers, are designed to allow parents to sleep close to their children at night without the danger of SIDS. However, they are only suitable for use up to 6 months of age when your baby is required to move into a cot, or a moses basket.

Mehack Mehack, an MFM home tester, loved the fact that this model features an integrated bassinet that can be used throughout the house. It also features the ability to rock manually. It was easy to set up, and came with its own travel bag.

    Size

Cots are smaller than cots. They also can be converted into toddler beds, whereas cot beds are generally only used until three years old. older. There are two sizes of wooden cots, large and standard that can be transformed into a toddler bed or cot. If you wish for your child (or children) to be comfortable sleeping in a bigger cot, it's a good option to select the larger one.

Jasmine, an MFM mum who tested the product at home, was pleased the fact that it was a little bigger than a Moses' basket but still not too large for the room of her baby. It's easy to lift her baby in and out for night feeding or soothing, and that the quality is great when compared to other cots she's encountered that feel cheap and flimsy.

Another home test subject, Emily, likes how the Maxi-Cosi is a versatile product It's a bassinet that lifts off that can be moved around the home, and it's a blast too. It also has a reflux incline option and a machine-washable breathable liner. It was also shortlisted for the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards in the Best Cot or Moses Basket category. The Lora is a perfect fit for a South African cot mattress unlike other international or European brands. This means that you don't need to buy a brand new mattress when your baby grows. It will require a specific bedding set (60x120cm). Here you can find the perfect mattress for your cot.

    Height

When choosing a bedside cot be sure to choose one that can be elevated to a height that's comfortable for you to feed your baby. It should also be able to be lowered to the ground so that you can pull your baby up towards you for feedings at night or for soothing. This is particularly useful if you are recovering from a C Section. The Next2me Cot and Tutti Bambini can be adjusted to an maximum height of 58cm, while the Snuzpod 3 can go up to 63cm and the Knuma Hutch up to 70cm.

Another thing to consider is the height you would like to set for the base of your cot to be. Some mums find that it is easier to lift their babies from their standard Moses baskets if the base is at the lowest level, while others prefer a higher level to give them greater stability. One of our testers for mums stated that the Joie Roomie Glide was a popular choice. It comes with an easy-to-fold side that you can press at the press of a button.

Remember that a bassinet/bedside sleeper is only suitable until your baby is able to hold their head without assistance typically about 6 months. This is due to the possibility of suffocation. You should also be aware that when your child is old enough to convert an existing bedside or bassinet into a cot for bedside, they will need to take the sides off as soon as they are able to do this. This will prevent them from climbing out or falling out of bed.

    Design

There are many different styles of bedside cribs, from simple to luxurious. Some of the more luxurious options include features such as an inbuilt light and a soothing center that plays music and sounds and has two levels to help ease your baby back to sleep or the swivelling footrest, which allows you to reach your child in order to feed them. Some models can be transformed into a toddler bed or cot (or both) when your child is ready for their own bed.

The Tutti Bambini CoZee Air for instance was awarded Bronze at the 2021 Mother&baby bedside cot Awards in the Best Cot Moses Basket or Crib category. It has a swivelling bottom that lets you pick up your baby and transfer them to the opposite side of the crib without getting out of bed. This is ideal for mothers who are recovering from Caesarean births or who require the bed for extended periods of time. MFM mom home tester Jasmine was awed by this feature, saying it was easy to use and made reaching her baby much easier particularly after her c-section.

Another option is the Chicco Next2me Magic, which has won Gold at the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards for the category of the Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket. It also includes an easy-to-clean liner, reflux incline and rocking function. It's bigger than other bedside cribs that we've tested, but it folds down into its bag for travel cot bedside crib, making it a small size when not in use.

MFM mom home tester Leya also liked the functionality of this bedside crib describing how it was designed with the needs of parents and children in mind. It is a fantastic design that is extremely simple to operate and is extremely sturdy. Its swivelling base is fantastic as it means you can move the bassinet from side-to-side and one of its sides can be lowered down to make access easier especially for new mothers who are recovering from their c-sections,' she said.

    Safety

A large bedside cot's main security characteristic is the fact that it can easily be moved up or down so that parents can reach their baby to feed or comfort them, or change his or their nappy. This makes it ideal for mothers who still be recovering from a C-section. You should look for the design that allows you to lower the sides of the bed with a single button press. This allows you to lift your child up without having to get out of bed. This is especially important as your baby grows older and becomes more mobile. It is also important to be careful not to add anything to the crib that increases the chance of suffocation, or injury, like pillows and duvets, which can cause babies to overheat.

The CPSC's NPR included 24 incidents that were attributed to problems with the product, such as gaps between the bedside sleeper and the adult bed (12 incidents); fabric-sided enclosed openings (11 incidents) as well as consumer misassembly, or missing parts (6 incidents); and miscellaneous other product-related issues (9 incidents).

In its NPR, the CPSC considered the possibility of additional requirements for sleepers in bed, such as the requirement that they satisfy the minimum side height requirement for bassinets, or at a minimum, meet the maximum height requirement for the side rail. The CPSC found, however that these requirements weren't feasible or effective in reducing number of incidents where infants are trapped by the bedside rail as well as an adult bed.

Many of the reported incidents in the NPR involved multiuse bedside sleepers which can be converted to other modes such as play yards and bassinets. Several commenters suggested the CPSC add an alternative clause to the proposed rule for bedside sleepers with multiple uses that would allow them to meet the minimum side height requirements for bassinets using an attachment that is removable. The attachment can be permanently attached or disconnected when the product's not being used as a baby bassinet.

The CPSC is reviewing these comments and others received in response to the NPR on bedside sleeping. The Commission will consider these comments when it votes on the final rule which is expected to be released in November 2021.uuoeebb-4-in-1-bedside-crib-baby-bassinet-with-changing-table-baby-bedside-sleeper-with-mattress-baby-crib-with-wheels-travel-bag-5-height-adjustable-rocking-crib-for-newborn-665.jpg
